Clearing the Airwaves
This past week, President Donald J. Trump finally put an end to the madness of taxpayer funding for NPR and PBS.
With a single stroke of the pen, he signed an executive order titled “Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Biased Media,” cutting off the tens of millions of dollars that flow each year through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to these networks.
Public broadcasting began as a noble experiment—educational shows for children, cultural programming, local news.
But over the years, NPR and PBS have drifted into political activism, broadcasting woke talking points as “news.” And what was once a modest subsidy has ballooned into roughly half a billion dollars a year in federal funding.
For the hardworking Americans out there who balance their checkbooks every month, that’s your tax money—gone.
Opponents will howl that this is an attack on free speech. They’ll claim the administration is punishing broadcasters for their viewpoint. But let’s get real: nobody’s banning NPR or PBS. They can run whatever the FCC will allow. They can solicit donations, sponsorships, or corporate underwriting.
The First Amendment isn’t endangered here. What’s ended is the government forcing every taxpayer to bankroll a news agenda that flies in the face of conservative values.
Defending our freedom means more than guarding our borders or protecting our right to worship. It means protecting our wallets and ensuring Washington doesn’t pick winners and losers in the marketplace of ideas.
How long will we let entrenched bureaucracies siphon off our hard-earned dollars?
How long will we stand for skewed reporting disguised as public service?
This move is a win for America.
It’s protecting the legacy of our Founding Fathers, who never intended for Congress to fund one class of newspapers over another. It sends a clear message: government money comes with strings attached.
If NPR and PBS want to survive, they’ll need to look to viewers, listeners, and private donors—not the U.S. Treasury.
So here’s your call to action: share this victory with your neighbors. Tell your representatives you support ending corporate welfare for biased media. Join the fight to keep government out of the newsroom.
Because when we refuse to subsidize propaganda, we defend our freedom—and our nation is all the stronger for it.
